Captain Todd R. Hurley

Captain Todd Hurley, owner of Hurley Marine not only has a life time of boating experience but has a highly diversified background as a Merchant Marine Captain,  business owner, manager and hands-on entrepreneur.

More than a decade ago, Todd had an epiphany for an easier way to secure the dinghy to the platform of a boat, making it easy to access, secure and launch. And in a moment of ingenuity, he conceptualized the Hurley Marine Davit and would soon reinvent on-deck dinghy storage for the entire marine industry and now he assists countless boaters globally.

Inspiration was the source of invention for Todd once again when he patented an innovative design for underwater Trim Tab Lights that requires no holes to the hull, so installation is quick and easy.  Prior to the Trim Tab Lights, manufacturers and the consumer only had Thru Hull Lights which required large holes below the waterline and boasted that the lamp could be replaced from inside the boat.  Todd realized that most of us don’t have the room in our engine room to perform this maneuver.  Now the lights can be fully adjustable using your trim controls.

Another envision was his Drain Plug Light to provide boaters an easy, cost-effective means to light up their sterns.  It’s as simple as un-screwing your drain plug, slipping the power cord in, and easily screw the Drain Plug Light into your garboard drain to enhance the ambience of nighttime boating.

“I’ve been boating all my life. My ideas for new products often result from my experiences on the water.”

– Captain Todd Hurley

Home port, Escanaba, Michigan, is centrally located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on the beautiful waters of Green Bay’s Little Bay de Noc. Captain Hurley feels fortunate to have been able cruise the Great Lakes and on these Lakes is where he has gained his experience and inspiration for most of his life. “I’ve been boating all my life,” Todd says. “My ideas for new products often result from my experiences on the water.”

Hurley Marine was born from a passionate boater solving boating needs. And the company’s flagship products, the Dinghy Davits and Underwater Lights, changed the status quo and now are the industry’s innovative leaders and are confident that these systems will continue to inspire boaters and the kind of nautical outings they pursue and deserve.
